Who Are We Really, and Why Are We Alive Here?

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord: and thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thine soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sitterst in thine house, and when thou walkest by thy way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.”

This is known as the “Jewish Prayer Shema Yisrael”

In the Jewish tradition, these are the verses that are written on a scroll inside a “Mezuza” which is then placed on the doorpost of one’s home.

Time spent in God's Word and in prayer is vital to your spiritual health.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states it this way:

“The Life of Man-To Know and Love God”

“God, infinitely perfect and blessed in Himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man (humans) to make him share in His own blessed life.  For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man.  He calls man to seek Him, to know Him, to love Him with all his strength.”

Scripture also tells us...

Mark 12:29-31

“And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.” And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.”

According to the holy scriptures, we were made for the purpose of knowing God and loving God and knowing and loving the people that God created.  We are created by God and for God. We are created for this divine love relationship.  We can begin and grow in this divine relationship by asking Holy Spirit of God to help us respond to the Lord with our hearts.
John 17:3
“And this is eternal life, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

Psalm 100:3

“Know ye that the Lord He is God: it is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are HIS… "
